Review on Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. (spoiler alert if you have not read.)

Okay so I finished the Last in the Hunger games Trilogy called Mockingjay.
I had heard from not only my daughter and a ton of reviews that this last book was not as good as the first two.
I so do NOT agree. This last book was fabulous. Everything that had been building in the first to books came together in a fabulous roller coaster ride of emotions for not only Katniss but so many of the other characters also.
The dynamics between Katniss and Peta shifted and suddenly she was not his whole world anymore. My heart ached when he attacked her. I felt torn with her as she struggled to try and make out her feelings for both Gale and Peta. I cried with her when she lost her sister. I felt the anger and the betrayal when she couldn’t decided who to trust as far as the president of the capitol, And district 13.
This book was AMAZING!! There is no other way to put it. The ending was exactly what I would have hoped for. I knew all along she was truly in love with Peta but she was just so afraid of loosing Gale that she struggled and could not admit it to herself or to either of them. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic ride through out all three of these books. but i have to say as a book lover this last book had to be my favorite. It made me feel. It brought out emotions. It made you see and feel her pain, her love, her lose, All of it.
I would and will recommend these three books to anyone.
Fabulous, truly they grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let go until the end. Even though I was happy with the ending. I was also sad because i did not want the trilogy to end.
Can’t wait to see what they do with the movie (No I haven’t seen it. I always like to read the books first.)
I know the movie will be no where near as good as the books were but none the less excited.
Okay so thats it for now.
I am currently reading Woman in black and shall have my review for that when I am done.

Review for Catching Fire by suzanne Collins (spoiler alert if you have not read.)

I had heard in other reviews this one was also good but not as good as the first. I do not agree. This book made us more aware of the characters and their lives and what happened to them after the hunger games.
It takes the leader of the capitol no time at all to let Katniss know that she made a big mistake with the berries and openly deifying the capitol. She wanted to keep both herself and peta alive and was truly not viewing the berry incident as a blatant disregard for rules. As is the case with Katniss quite a bit. She does not always mean to be defiant or to cause waves, she only does so by doing what she thinks is the right thing to do. She has a difficult time expressing herself and also her feelings for others. That includes Peta and Gale who now there seems to be a bit of a love triangle between the three with Katniss in the middle. I would have to say though In this book it starts to become clear to me that katniss either is unaware of her true feelings for Peta or is just ignoring them as she said or thought a few times in this and the first book she wasn’t ready to think of her feelings for him. Gale on the other hand it also starts to become clear to me that the hope of a relationship there is based on her not wanting to loose what they had before the games. They had a set routine and they were comfortable enough with each other but i didn’t get the sense of love from either of them until peta showed up with his declaration of love for Katniss.
The build up to the big surprise in catching fire was great. They spoke of the quarter Quell and as a reader I knew it was going to be a big deal in this book but even I gasped when they said they were using tributes from the past. It makes you think like one of the characters in the book.
How dare they. They send some older and even with bad health back into this ring. It wasn’t right. None the less it was what the capitol and the president wanted. If you didn’t already hate the president then you did by this time because you just knew he was behind it and it was revenge for Katniss and her rebelion. Her reaction to this new only fuels your anger at the capitol as a reader. These people have already survived the unthinkable. Peta, I was impressed by he was surly not the leader in the first games as far as him and katniss went but he seriously pulled her and Hymitch together by the time the names were to be drawn. I knew Peta would step in as tribute for hymitch. I knew this games would be very different from the the first Peta and Katniss endured. But i had no idea. I was not prepared for the twists and turns at the end of this book.
I am truly not trying to spoil it in case anyone who reads this has not read this book. The ending totally flabbergasted me and left me with my mouth hanging open and so before i even finished this book again I went and purchased the third.
I highly recommend this book also. If you read the first one then you know what I know that you can’t get off this ride until it is finished.

Review for Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins (spoiler alert if you have not read the book)

Posted in Book Reviews, reading with tags , on April 25, 2012 by firequeen3

I was not expecting to enjoy this book. As it isn’t my usual reading material.
BOY was I WRONG!!. I was hooked on this book from the very first page. I seriously couldn’t put it down.
My husband actually made a comment about me enjoying the book more then I wanted to spend time with him.. LOL.
Katniss is a spectacular heroin. Her age makes her endearing to both young and old. Her inner struggles are complex and Suzanne Collins does a wonderful job of making Katniss real and so deep.
It becomes evident that this new world is so far from perfect right from the get go and that Katniss and all the people in her district along with other districts are in some serious turmoil. The addition of her best friend gale really lets you see what kind of person Katniss is. Also you can see her complete and utter distain for the people in charge and their rules. Her’s is not as bad as gales though i might say. Her love for her little sister made me like her even more then I already did.
She makes the ultimate sacrifice buy taking her place in the hunger games. Though it wasn’t surprising to me as I came to realize that she would do anything and had done anything to help and keep her sister happy and healthy.
The descriptions in this book are fabulous like that of the costumes the people and the capitol itself. Collins did a fabulous job bringing every person place and even food just pop and come to life.
The dynamics between Peta and Katniss come to light as soon as they are on the train to the capitol for the games. She knows better then to trust him but also knows nothing of his undying love for her.
The whole dynamic of the games the love all of it fascinated me and pulled me in immediately.
She struggles with her feelings for peta as he struggles with her mistrust of him. When they finally begin to work together is when you start to see the true dynamics of their story start to come together. Katniss’s defiance and complete will to not only keep herself alive for her sister but also her determination to keep Peta alive makes her lovable to the reader. She has rough edges but she is also soft and lovable if you can embrace that side of her.
I highly recommend this book to anyone. I quickly purchased the second book before ever even finishing this book.

Review for IT by Stephen King.

Posted in Book Reviews, reading with tags , on April 25, 2012 by firequeen3

Okay so since I was here last I finished IT.. It goes without saying that Mr. King is the master of all things literary. I have been a fan of his since my teenage years. I have read almost every book of his and own a few first editions even.
I have to say IT was no different. His usage of time and the switching between childhood and adulthood were effortless. He makes something totally unbelievable Completely believable. But then he is the king. It quickly soared up to the top of my favorites of Mr. Kings books. The battle from then and present mixed so well. It was almost hard to believe the similarity’s in the two but then you have to remember these are the same people battling this same evil force.
The ending with Big Bill and his wife made it sweet and beautiful. All the people left alive got a new start with the comfort they will never have to worry about all of this evil again.
All in all I guess IT was an amazing adventure I truly enjoyed.
Mr. Kings ability to make you a believer with just his words are truly incredible.
I could go on and on but alas I have other reviews to get to as I have read a lot since I last left you all.

I highly recommend this book as i do all of Stephen Kings books that is if you are a fan of the genre he writes.
